Fiat Strada is a compact pickup truck that has been a huge success in Brazil, where it is the best-selling vehicle in the country. Now, Fiat aims to expand its presence in the Middle East and Africa region (MEA) by launching the Strada in these markets. But what makes the Strada so appealing, and how will it fare against the competition? You need to know some key facts and features of the Fiat Strada.
The Strada is a versatile and reliable workhorse
The Strada was born 25 years ago in Brazil as a cargo-carrying version of the Fiat Palio hatchback. It was designed to meet the needs of both professional and personal users who wanted a vehicle that could handle different terrains, carry heavy loads, and offer comfort and technology. The Strada has a maximum loading capacity of 1,543 lb (700 kg) and a cargo space of 69.7 in (1,770 mm) x 51.7 in (1,314 mm). It also has a robust and modern design inspired by the award-winning Fiat Toro pickup.
The Strada has been a pioneer in its segment, introducing features such as the extended cab in 1999, the double cab in 2009, and the revolutionary third door in 2013. It was completely revamped in 2020, offering four doors and seating for five. It has become even more reliable and technologically advanced, with LED headlights, stability control, hill start assist, traction control, four airbags, pre-tensioner seatbelts, and Isofix child seat anchors. It also has a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
Efficient and powerful engines power the Strada
The Strada is currently offered in Brazil with two engine options: a 1.3-liter naturally aspirated engine with 101 hp and 97 lb-ft of torque, and a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine with 123 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired with a five-speed manual transmission and a front-wheel-drive system. The Strada has a fuel consumption of 35.6 mpg (6.6 L/100 km) for the 1.3-liter engine and 37.9 mpg (6.2 L/100 km) for the 1.0-liter engine.
For the MEA markets, the Strada will be available with a 1.4-liter naturally aspirated engine with 85 hp and 90 lb-ft of torque, and a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated engine with 130 hp and 133 lb-ft of torque. Both engines will be paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and a front-wheel-drive system. The Strada will also have a 7-speed CVT option for some markets. The fuel consumption of the Strada for the MEA markets has not been disclosed yet.
The Strada has a competitive price and a strong brand reputation
The Strada has a starting price of $11,900 (BRL 66,990) in Brazil, which makes it one of the most affordable pickup trucks in the market. It also benefits from the strong brand reputation of Fiat, which has been a market leader in Brazil for 15 consecutive years. Fiat has sold more than 2 million units of the Strada since its launch and has a loyal customer base that appreciates its quality, performance, and durability.
For the MEA markets, the Strada will have a starting price of $14,500 (AED 53,200) in the United Arab Emirates, which is comparable to other compact pickup trucks in the region, such as the Nissan NP300, the Toyota Hilux, and the Ford Ranger. The Strada will also be sold in other countries, such as Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Guinea-Conakry, Madagascar, Rwanda, and Ghana. Fiat hopes to leverage its global presence and its commitment to providing products that meet specific customer needs to gain a foothold in these new markets.
